Project Description
Jordan Petroleum Refinery Co. Ltd. engaged Sealion to carry out two distinct but critical operations at their Aqaba marine facility. The first was a structural welding project on the refinery's seawater marine intake system — an essential infrastructure component used for cooling and process operations that had suffered corrosion damage and required precise underwater and above-water welding works to restore full structural integrity. Sealion deployed a combined team of certified marine welders and commercial divers to execute the repair program, including steel section replacement, cofferdam works, and post-repair pressure testing. The second operation involved an oil pollution containment response at the shoreline following a minor but environmentally sensitive oil release. Sealion responded rapidly, deploying absorbent boom systems, conducting shoreline cleanup, and coordinating with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and the Jordan Maritime Authority to manage documentation and regulatory reporting for the incident.
Key Achievements
- Underwater and above-water marine intake welding and steel renewal completed
- Cofferdam installation enabled dry welding environment in submerged sections
- Post-repair pressure testing confirmed structural integrity restoration
- Shoreline oil pollution contained and remediated within 24 hours
- Full regulatory documentation submitted to ASEZA and Jordan Maritime Authority
- Zero safety incidents across both concurrent operations
